Dr. Cano will provide an overview of the research on the powerful effect of couples' relationship dynamics on pain and will provide evidence-based strategies for couples to manage pain and distress together. Couples can learn new skills to support each other to manage pain and distress while also growing closer together. Healthy relationships make pain more bearable. Attendees will be able to:
- Identify the challenges that people with chronic pain face when discussing pain with their loved ones.
- Describe the concerns that loved ones have for their partners in pain.
- Identify positive communication strategies that couples can practice to reduce stress and improve mood.
- Create a plan for practicing positive strategies as a couple and individually.
