About the role

The Manager, Donor Engagement is accountable to the Director, Communications and Donor Engagement for the planning and provision of high-quality donor, sponsor and funder engagement to ensure the success of Pain BC and Pain Canada initiatives. The Manager, Donor Engagement, in collaboration with the Director, Communications and Donor Engagement and the Executive Director, convenes Pain BC’s internal staff and external partners who contribute to donor/sponsor/funder engagement activities. The primary purpose of the Manager, Donor Engagement is to support donor/sponsor and funder engagement through all phases of the fundraising and stewardship life cycle, developing and implementing plans (including grant writing, sponsorship programs, and fundraising campaigns), tracking and monitoring progress, and ensuring information is appropriately shared with relevant parties. The Manager, Donor Engagement adheres to standards jointly defined with the Director, Communications and Donor Engagement. The Manager, Donor Engagement builds and maintains positive collaborative relationships with Pain BC’s internal and external interest-holders, individual donors, corporate sponsors, philanthropic partners and government funders to ensure organizational mission and goals are achieved.

Key results areas
  • Planning and Development – Plans and develops diversified donor/sponsor/funder engagement strategies to increase annual revenue, with a focus on expanding sustainable revenue from individuals, corporate sponsors, foundations, community fundraising and earned revenue initiatives. Plans and develops donor recognition and stewardship activities, including creating new opportunities for meaningful engagement and retention. Stays up to date on fundraising and stewardship trends, innovations and opportunities.
  • Documentation and Reporting – Maintains up-to-date plans for all work. Ensures all relevant documentation such as grant proposals, sponsorship agreements, design documents, process documents and key communications are completed, tracked and appropriately stored. Ensures all engagement-related meetings are properly documented in the relevant systems. Utilizes data- driven insights to assess fundraising performance, track key metrics, and optimize strategies for greater impact.
  • Execution – Executes donor engagement projects from the idea-generation stage through delivery, stewardship and evaluation. Creates compelling fundraising appeals, grant proposals, sponsorship programs and stewardship materials to grow and retain partners in Pain BC's mission. Assigns sub-activities to other Pain BC staff who work on donor engagement initiatives and ensures these activities are completed on time. Maintains timelines and tracking for all donor engagement-related work. Identifies risks to the annual engagement plans and timelines and proposes mitigation strategies. Ensures engagement-related meetings are effectively managed. Builds, nurtures and stewards relationships with existing donors, sponsors, and key interest- holders to enhance long-term engagement and giving. Identifies and cultivates new opportunities, including major gifts ($10K+), grants, and corporate partnerships.

Position requirements

Education

• Fund Development, Communications and/or Interest-holder Engagement designation or equivalent education and experience required.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years’ recent, related experience working in fund development, communications and interest-holder engagement capacity or equivalent.
• Significant experience in developing diverse and innovative fund development strategies
• Demonstrated experience writing successful grants and generating results through sponsorship and other donor/sponsor/funder engagement mechanisms.
• Proven track record working in health or social mission organizations with a commitment to equity, accessibility, justice and inclusion

Salary, hours and location of work

This is a full-time, work-from-home position (37.5 hours a week) and includes a competitive benefits package including four weeks of paid vacation, health and dental coverage with a flexible health spending account, a remote-work stipend and an employer-provided RRSP match.

Starting salary: $80,651.81 annually

Salary Range: Step 1 - $80,651.81 to Step 8 - $92,643.57

New hires must start their salary at $80,651.81 annually according to the BCGEU Collective Agreement.
